Prevously, we posted about a new Linux computer, the Raspberry Pi. We can now confirm that they have gone into production. Raspberry Pi

We've just come across the Raspberry Pi. It is a new tiny, but fully functioning computer. All it is is the chip board. It connects to a display with HDMI, no VGA option available. It comes in two model, A and B. The difference is that A has 128MB or RAM and B has 256MB, and 10/100 Ethernet Adaptor. They will sell for $25 (£15) and $35 (£22) respectively. The model A is mainly designed for schools, why the B model can be used for almost anything. The storage is done through a SD card which contains the Linux distro. You can't run Windows on it. Original it was going to run Mint, but the support for processor was dropped. We will use Fedora on ours and we highly recommend it. At the moment there is no release date, but they hope to have 10,000 models by February. There are ten beta boards for sale on eBay, but it is a charity sale, and the bids have exceeded £2000 for some models. We can't wait to get our one and have a play around. Watch this space!

1,000,000,000 Apps Downloaded in One Week!

Flurry, an Analytics firm, has reported that one billion apps were downloaded in the last week of December. This is a major leap, as only last year Apple had its 10,000,000,000 App downloaded. Flurry believes that these sort of download numbers will become much more frequent as apps and devices become cheaper. On the Christmas weekend alone, 3,700,000 Android devices where activated. We think its great!

Android 4.0 Experiencing Compatibility Problems?

Some apps on the Android Market have raised major compatibility issues with the new Google Phone running Android 4.0. Most of these errors are related to Wireless and 3G internet usage. Many apps are unable to access basic information about connected routers, such as the SSID (Network Name). This renders many applications such as 'Unlock with WiFi' unable to function. Google has not commented on this issue yet.

New Android Market App for Android Phones!

Recently Google released a new version of its Android Market App. The new version looks a lot like the Windows Phone 7 interface. It is much easier to navigate than the old version with new categories and filters. The buttons are now square, and look a lot like the buttons that have been implemented on the Google homepage and Google Apps pages. Have a look at the photo below to see what we mean.

HTC Sense 3.0 Lockscreen Hits HTC Wildfire S

The new HTC Sense lockscreen was recently rolled out for all HTC Wildfire S models. The Sense version still remains at 2.1 but may get the full upgrade to 3.0 in a few months. This update is the 2.3.5 Android Gingerbread update. At the moment we don't think that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will arrive on it any time soon, due to the major changes to the OS. Have a look at a photo of our Wildfire S showing off the new lockscreen below.
